Court In The Act: Ballarat East Petty Sessions 1858-59 Transcribed By Dorothy Wickham Roy Huggins Court in the Act incorporates a short history of the Ballarat East Petty Sessions Court plus a consolidated alphabetical surname index of defendants and claimants transcribed from the first volume of the Petty Sessions Registers. The date range of this index is from July 1858 to August 1859 and therefore the index is of particular importance, being one of the first lists of surnames for the Ballarat East area and being prior to the first rates being struck.
