Ballarat Heritage Services is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of Victorian local and family history, especially in the Ballarat area. Ballarat Heritage Services distributes historical, small run and specialist publications that are often difficult to locate. Ballarat Heritage Services also offers consultancy and research. They maintain a large range of databases and indexes not accessible in libraries or on the internet. Clare Gervasoni, Wayne Phillipson and Dorothy Wickham started Ballarat Heritage Services in February 1998, and have researched, written and published over 20 titles. Clare Gervasoni is a qualified art educator, and museum curator. Clare specialises in Swiss & Italian research and early migration to Australasia. She has written books on Art Education, early European migration to Australia and aspects of the Victoria's goldfields. Clare enjoys developing and researching exhibition text panels, and rediscovering the "hidden" past through oral history. Wayne Phillipson is a master jeweller who has designed and manufactured the Ballarat Heritage range of jewellery. Wayne has an uncanny skill for finding that "special" piece of research by simply opening a book (to the right page!), after others have spent hours searching for the same information. Dorothy Wickham is a qualified teacher who has had many years experience in historical research, archives, and publications. Dot is currently researching the Ballarat Female Refuge, women on the Victorian goldfields, the Irish in Ballarat and district and the Eureka rebellion. Local history is her passion and she is known for discovering the impossible, and if it can be indexed Dot will index it!
